Creator Economy News This Week
Disney Just Signaled That Short-Form Creator Content Is Core Infrastructure
In his first earnings call as Disney’s new CEO, Josh D’Amaro went out of his way to praise Verts, the TikTok-style vertical video feed Disney+ launched earlier this year. He said it’s “already driving deeper engagement” with Disney’s franchises, and that Disney plans to “advance that work in the months ahead” with content creators.
The detail worth paying close attention to: the content flow runs both directions. Disney isn’t just pulling creator content into the Disney+ app. D’Amaro explicitly said Disney will also be making “sure that our IP shows up in relevant ways across social platforms.” The specific callout was Gen Alpha — the newest generation of Disney fans who engage with franchises through short-form content rather than traditional broadcast.
